My heart is in a million pieces...

It finally happened last night. My heart is shattered. I know a billion other moms have been through this. But I finally have proof positive that I no longer have a baby. 11 years old and I no longer have a baby.

Last night E was in his room - it was way past bedtime and I wanted to make sure he was in bed. We had a lot to do this morning, and I didn't want him any grumpier than he had to be. So, I went in to check on him. I opened his door quietly because I honestly thought he might be asleep. Well, I caught him off guard. He had my laptop in his room and had the earphones on. When he saw me, his eyes bugged out and one hand immediately went to the power button while the other hand tried to close the screen down. I immediately went into 'interrogator mom' mode. "What are you looking at?" He was caught so off guard, he couldn't even lie. "Boobs - I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry!" and on and on it went. When he finaly calmed down I explained the best way I could. "E, it's only natural that you are curious, but there are viruses on those websites and I need this computer for work."

I mean, really, I don't want him to think he's a freak for being curious. But I don't want him surfing the net for it either because the net holds a lot more than boobs. Where did the good old days go when boys would innocently find their dad's porn stash, or their mom's Victoria's Secret catalog???

  1. Oh, my my.... I am soo glad my son was living with his Dad at the time of puberty... I honestly do not know how I would have handled this. You handled it well. I truly do not know what I would have done or said. :-)

  2. I am so sorry (Frown)! I don't have children but I can imagine how I may feel. While I know you are sad that your son is 'growing up'; one day he is going to tell his peers - "Gawd! I will never forget when mom caught me!! I was horrified! But she was really cool about it - which made it a little better."

When I was in 5th grade one of the boys brought a Playboy to school - during a bathroom break several of the boys were gathered at this boys locker. The very wise teacher walked up - and BAM! She told them to go to the office - and 3 immediately BURST into tears! I'll never forget her comment, "If you are man enough to look at Playboy, then you have to be man enough not to cry when you get caught!!" I can appreciate now that the teachers' probably passed the Playboy around later. So while it was not a comfortable situation for either of you - sounds like you have a really good 'kid/man'. WELL DONE MOM!! WELL DONE!!!

  4. Oh girl I remember when I was using the computer under Jem's password and found cartoon porn. I was LIVID and he tried to justify it saying it technically wasn't real. I, like you, told him it was normal and I get that. I put so many blocks onto his login that he can't even get normal videos or commercials to play and we are both okay with that. HOWEVER, I dread opening the door to his room in the mornings now more than ever because his showers are now over 20 minutes - sigh!

  5. Oh the 'good ol days' are GONE. Now 3-somes are the norm my dear. I think as parents the most we can do is TRY to teach our chidren to respect themselves and other people and make it clear that sex hurts. It isn't mindless fun, it HURTS people in the wrong (and most common ) form.

My my my this is not good. I feel for you...please figure out how to handle this so you can teach us all! (Sorry).

  6. Oh Lord. I dread the day when my kiddo hits puberty. You DID do a pretty awesome job of not freaking out. I'm sure I wouldn't have been so calm. And I'm sure a few cuss words would have come out. LOL

Yea I agree with GG. Figure this out cuz in about 4 years I'm gonna be asking you for advice.
